Tomorrow is Murphy’s second birthday. For those of you Party Peeps that don’t have the awesome chance of knowing me in real human life, Murphy is my little rascal Tibetan Terrier. I got him when he was nine weeks old and have been glued to him ever since. He is the most spoiled dog that I know. He sleeps in my bed each night…under my down comforter…with his head on my pillow. And has his own special cabinet full of t-shirts and sweaters (he’s a little guy, he gets cold!) He always looks like he is smiling, and has an infectious way of passing on this trait to everyone he meets. He loves anything that moves: humans, dogs, cats, flies, feathers falling from the air. So, back to tomorrow. Yeah, he was born on St. Pat’s day (hence the Irish name) and tomorrow is the Big 2! In celebration of his birthday, I am sharing with you a video of Murph two years ago. This was taken on the day that I brought him home, May 19, 2007. I originally emailed it out to my family so that they could see him, hence the reason he is “talking” to his family 🙂

Tomorrow, we will be celebrating his birthday at his Gma and Gpa’s house, with his favorite Aunt Makana. We will of course have a traditional Irish meal of Corned Beef and Cabbage (my fave!), and I am going to stop by the Puppy Bakery and get some birthday treats. I’ll definitely post some pics of the St. Birth-rick’s day festivities!

Bag Lady Makes a Decision March 15, 2009

And that decision is….Purseona Bag

The Ivory Orchids bag from Purseona. I am so in love! Some of the other bags that the designer has in the store have knitted flower broaches on them. Such an adorable detail! In typical me-me-me fashion, I emailed the designer this afternoon to see if it would be possible to get a flower broach for my purse as well. I figure, the broach and the purse could be pals, and could, you know, keep eachother company when they are alone in my work locker or something for an extended period of time. Plus, they look much cuter and more accessorized with the broach! I will definitely take a glamour shot when the bag arrives, and let you know the outcome of the broach inquiry. In the meantime, check out Purseona’s other great bags, as I included a link above. Have a great afternoon, Party Peeps. I am just lounging this afternoon and soaking in my misery ( the boyfriend went back to LA this afternoon after a quick, snugglicious visit to see moi. I miss him already!) Now it’s time to get back to my flick for the afternoon, ‘Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist’. I highly recommend it thus far – it’s funny and cute! If you liked Juno, you’ll love N.A.N.I.P.  Toodles Party Peeps!

Today is Podge’s birthday. He would be 45. Today is also Friday the 13th, which he was born on Friday the 13th, too. I always thought that the whole Friday the 13th superstition was dumb because Podge was born on that day, and I remember telling people that when I was a kid. Anywho, Podge has been on my mind a lot more than usual lately. Mostly because I was anticipating his birthday today, but also because I had my surgery this week and have been home sick by myself most of the time. I remember when I was a kid and would stay home sick, a lot of times Podge would stay home with me just for kicks. It was the best. He would make me grilled cheese sandwiches with tomato soup, and we would watch old movies. He loved Cool Hand Luke. I loved Crocodile Dundee. Since I moved back home a few months ago, I have been driving past a lot of places and being reminded of him in many things I see around the Bay Area. One place that I always see that reminds me of him is…

CASPER’S HOT DOGS! I can’t think of another food that reminds me of my Podge more. There were so many days when I would tromp into Casper’s in my baseball cleats and tee-ball uniform. Podge would always take us to the Casper’s on C Street in Hayward, because it was near the baseball fields we used to play at. When we moved out to Tracy later on in the mid-90’s, he would stop at the Casper’s on Foothill in Castro Valley every now and then on his way home from work and bring us home a hot dog. We discovered later that you could buy the dogs from Costco, but they just weren’t the same. There is something about that finely grated cheddar. and the bun-steaming machines inside the Casper’s restaurants that make them out of this world. People in LA brag about Pink’s, but I have to admit, there is just no comparison to Casper’s.

I was also reminded of Podge earlier this week at Kaiser. I had to get some blood drawn and the nurse in the lab who helped me was named Claire. Besides my most popular nickname, Queen, Dad also used to call me Claire sometimes when I was little. It was short for another name he made up for me, and I have no idea where it came from.  He would call me Chang Lau Loopie Saint Claire. He had all kinds of these multi-nationality, run-on names for all of us. He would call Bobby things like Cleetus or Jones, and would combine them with whatever other words he came up with that day to make the name longer and more outrageous. Whenever we played a game, he would fill out the score cards and write simply “Shaun” for his name, and then write out “Chang Lau Loopie Saint Claire” for my name. His sense of humor and imagination was out of control!

There are tons of other things that remind me of him that I see from time to time, so I will share them with you Party Peeps as they come up. For now, I am going to wrap it up. I’m due for another dose of meds and am starting to feel a bit nauseous from looking at the computer screen (Ahh, the joys of recovery). I hope all of you find smiles and joy in your memories of Podge. Feel free to share a story or reminder of him if you want. I would love to read them!

Good Morning Party Peeps…How’s it goin’? I had a bit of a rough night last night (super nauseous and sore), so I’m taking it easy this morning. Nothing is more therapeautic and relaxing than a lil’ bit of shopping on Etsy! I promised myself that on my next payday I would buy myself a new purse, as the straps just broke off my most favorite bag. 😦 So I did some browsing this morning, and came across about fifteen bags that I love! Don’t worry, I narrowed it down to the following candidates. Which one do you like best? (Be sure to click on the links to each bag so you can get the full effect and see the interior fabric.)

So, I think my favorite one so far is the last one. Joel Dewberry is one of my favorite fabric designers, and that is his famous Ginseng print. Cast your votes ! I am placing my order on Friday 🙂 That’s all for now lovelies. I think I am going to wake up Chapel and have her drag me to the nail salon. A pedicure sounds AMAAHHHZING and I really need to get out and get some fresh air. It might take me an hour to walk from my room to the garage, but hey, I don’t have anything better to do!  Have a great day everyone 🙂

It Was Great While It Lasted… March 11, 2009

The relationship with my Gall Bladder and I, that is. We recently found, though, that we simply could not function together any longer and decided to call it quits. It was definitely a mutual decision; He grumbled at me and I grumbled back. We both couldn’t stand eachother anymore, especially during the last few weeks. I couldn’t do anything without him getting upset at me; Everything I ate, Every time I excercised; He always had something to complain about. In return, he punished me with heart burn and tummy aches until I just couldn’t take it any longer. I sought out counseling through Kaiser Hospital and after a week of blood tests, urinalysis tests and  a CT scan, it was finally confirmed; The Gall Bladder and I were getting a divorce. He had been stealing my bile and turning it into Gall Stones for quite some time now without my knowing, and he had no idea how much it was hurting me. Well I hope that bile meant a lot to him because it cost him the best girl he’ll ever have. After a long talk on Monday night, I explained to him that it just wasn’t going to work anymore and that he had to get out. He threatened me at first, saying I couldn’t live with out him but I didn’t fall for it. Sorry GB, but a girl like me can replace you in a minute with a few doses of Bilemin. You should have thought about that before you went behind my back GB. You took me for granted and you thought I would never do anything about it. Well, for all my ladies out there who have Gall Bladders that think they can run your life, I stood up to GB and did something about it. I cut him off (literally), stitched myself up and moved on with my life. I am in pain now and feel a little bit like a piece of me is missing, but I know that after this short heartbreak is over my life will be so much better without him. The pain I feel now is going to be short lived and I will come out knowing that I am an independent woman who doesn’t need a GB in her life to make her happy! Raise your glasses single women of the world! Gall Bladders?!?!  We don’t need no stinking Gall Bladders!

Party’s Over GB,

Rest In Peace, Ginger Elaine

Rest In Peace, Ginger Elaine

Ginger, If you are reading this from your puppy laptop somewhere in the clouds, I want you to know that you were a good girl. You were the best girl.  We miss you so much already 😦 Though our hearts were breaking yesterday when we had to say Goodbye to you, we know that it was much better for you to not have to feel the pain anymore. Your normal spunk and playfulness was no longer apparent, but we will never forget it; The way you used to trot over to me on the couch and lay your head on my knee; The way you used to sneak into the kitchen when we were in there, almost to say, “Look, no one is around, just slip me a piece of ham”; The way you used to wake up from a nap, all relaxed and calm, only to sporadically throw yourself onto your back and roll around with all four legs in the air in a random fit of excitement – that was hilarious. The thing I will miss the most is how Grandmother-ly you were, especially to Murphy. You would move your big, curvy frame around like you were a puppy again when you would play with him, and would always come to his defense when Makana would get too sassy. And even though it was probably really annoying, you would let Murph lay next to you and chew on your lips and legs forever. Thank you for being so tolerant and patient with Murph, and with Makana for that matter. Thank You for being such a good girl and always making us laugh at your goofy traits and funny looks. Thank You for knowing when we were ever sad or paying attention when we cried – I know that you knew when we were upset because you would take your paw and put it on our legs or arms, and you would look at us like, “Hey, I’m here if you need to talk”. I could almost see you throwing an apron on and going into the kitchen to bake some cookies. You were, like, Grandma Gingey 🙂

We will never forget you, Ginger Elaine. May you find an endless supply of Cheeseburgers and lots and lots of Treats in Doggie Heaven. xoxo
